What If Your Purpose Isn’t Something To Find?

One of the most pressing questions of our time is, “What is my purpose?”

For some, it lingers quietly in the background, while for others, it’s loud, intrusive and constantly demands attention. The pressure to discover a unique, ground-breaking purpose is real and can feel incredibly overwhelming.

And often, in that pressure, we end up settling.

We find ourselves in a job, a role, a relationship or a season that we didn’t exactly plan, but because it seems to work, we decide, “This must be it!"

Surely, if it happened naturally, if it makes use of my strengths, if it came with some form of success… then it must be it, right?

Yet maybe purpose isn’t something you find.

The truth is, our ultimate purpose is to glorify God. We mustn’t let this truth become just a vain repetition or a verse to share on social media. It’s the very reason we were created. To reflect Him. To honour Him. To live in a way that reveals His character and love.

How that plays out in our lives will look different for each of us, but the core remains the same. We weren’t made to build our own empires or to chase what we perceive as success. We were made to live in relationship with God — and out of that relationship, everything else flows.

That means purpose isn’t always tied to what you’re good at. It’s not always about what you enjoy most. It may not even bring any applause, attention or praise.

Ultimately, purpose is deeper than your preferences and wider than your skillset. Of course, those things matter to a certain extent — our loving Father delights in giving us gifts and passions. But purpose isn’t built on feelings, talent, or desires.

Ephesians 2:10 puts it beautifully:

You were created on purpose to live out what was already set before you.

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are not left to figure things out. The works you’re meant to walk in have already been prepared before you — your role is to walk. Not do, not strive, but walk.

So maybe the question isn’t, “What is my purpose?” but rather, “Am I walking in what has been placed before me?” Or better yet, “Do I know what has been placed before me?”

Before we can walk in something, we need to recognise it.

Sometimes, we’re so busy searching for something big that we overlook what’s already here. We miss the opportunities for obedience, for impact, for glorifying God in the ordinary moments — mainly because we’ve assumed that purpose must look grand and impressive.

But the good works God has prepared for you? They don’t always exist in the spotlight. I would argue that they rarely exist anywhere even close to the spotlight. If you’re constantly looking ahead for something more meaningful, you’ll miss the meaning in what’s already been entrusted to you.

The path of purpose isn't always marked by success  — interpreting success as proof is a sure way to navigate off course. The true indicator is the certainty that you are walking in step with the One who laid the path.

And if you don’t yet know what’s in front of you — ask. God is not hiding it from you. He wants to reveal it, and He often does so in the most beautiful ways.

Purpose isn’t a distant hope. It's not reserved for a future version of you.

When we are in Him, we don’t have to find purpose.
We live it.

With love,

Feyisola

Thanks for this reminder…. our purpose = pleasing God.
Simple yet very profound.

This is deep and very inspiring. There’s something profound about how you’ve captured this truth. Your words have this incredible way of being both powerful and gentle at the same time. Reading this brought me to a place of quiet contemplation – you’ve reminded me that true purpose isn’t found in the noise of recognition, but about the authenticity of impact, even when we are unseen by others. Grateful for the shift in perspective.
Please, never stop writing. This is a blessing.
Thank you.

This is so pertinent in an increasingly lost & confused world. I truly appreciate your deep and eloquently expressed thoughts. Thank you so much.

This piece is so loud yet so still. It has brought me to a point of reflection and gratitude. Walking in purpose doesn’t mean performance when applause is the loudest, it means when you are able to truly help and make an impact even without applause. Thank you!
